Are you looking for a family fun weekend getaway in Ohio? Consider an escape to the Mohicans.
Ohio has tons of great family getaways, but one that we have fallen in love with is a visit to the Mohicans. The Mohicans Treehouse Resort transports guests from the hustle and bustle of everyday living to the serene, peaceful treetops of the Mohican Valley.
While we have had the opportunity to stay at one of their lovely treehouses, we stayed at one of the resort’s country houses on our recent trip. The country homes are much larger than the treehouses giving families space to spread out!
We want to thank the Mohicans Treehouse Resort for sponsoring this post. This site contains affiliate links. As always, my opinions are my own.
Where Is The Mohican Treehouse Resort
The Mohicans Treehouse Resort is in the heart of Ohio’s Mohican Valley. The resort sits on 77 acres of privately owned land only minutes from the Mohican Memorial State Forest.
The Mohican State Park is found in Loudonville, Ohio. It is located between Columbus and Cleveland, roughly 25 minutes off of I-71.
TIP: Upon booking, the resort will give you detailed instructions on how to get to your accommodations. Be sure to print them out or have them saved on your phone because cell phone service is poor in the area.
What Is The Mohicans Treehouse Resort
The Mohicans Treehouse Resort and Wedding Venue gives guests the unique experience of staying overnight in one of their signature treehouses. With an onsite event venue, it is a popular destination for weddings, reunions, and life celebrations.
Many visitors are unaware that the Mohicans also offer a handful of cabins and country homes available for rent. These are ideal for families or guests looking for more bedrooms, space, and comforts of home.
The Farmhouse: A Country Home From The Mohicans
Tucked away along the rolling country hillside sits a quaint little farmhouse ideal for a family fun weekend getaway in Ohio. Enjoy a family game night on the farmhouse deck under the lights, tell stories around the firepit, or curl up on the couch for movie night.
A Spacious Retreat
The two-story farmhouse was spacious, giving my family plenty of room to move about without feeling we were on top of each other. Three bedrooms are available, which can accommodate up to 8 guests. One bedroom with a queen bed is on the main floor, while two bedrooms are upstairs, one having two queen beds.
Stepping inside the beautiful two-story farmhouse house, guests are welcomed with a cozy sitting area that opens up into a large living room. There is a satellite TV with a DVD player. I recommend bringing a few of your favorite DVDs from home to enjoy if the selection on satellite TV is not to your taste.
Our family took full advantage of the games and puzzles in the farmhouse! From Jenga, Candyland to a 500-piece puzzle, we appreciated having activities to enjoy.
A Fully Furnished Kitchen
Directly off the living room is a roomy kitchen that is fully furnished. It is ideal for making family meals as the kitchen has a four-burner gas stove, full-size refrigerator, dishwasher, and all the cookware you need. Basic spices and coffee are also provided.
Gather around the large kitchen table for dinner or choose to eat al fresco on the patio. A grill on the deck is perfect for a fun BBQ after a day of hiking.
TIP: BRING ICE. The fridge does not have an ice maker.
It isn’t until everyone retreats to bed for the evening that you can appreciate the farmhouse’s stillness. It is extremely quiet, with every creak and squeaks heard acutely throughout the house. For some, this is a welcomed solace, while others may find it difficult to drift off to sleep.
TIP: I recommend bringing a sound machine or plugging in one of the fans in the bedrooms if you find it to quiet. I use the BetterSleep app, which acts as my white noise.
You Will Get A Hot Shower
Two full baths are in the farmhouse, each with a shower. While the water pressure might not be the greatest, the water does get hot! Shampoo, conditioner, and soap are provided in case you may have forgotten those toiletries.
The Tin Shed: An Overnight In A Treehouse
We splurged and opted to check out the Tin Shed Treehouse for our tenth anniversary! The Tin Shed is one of many unique treehouse rentals available at the Mohicans. Please read all about our Treehouse stay and tips in our Tin Shed Review.
Things To Bring With You To The Farmhouse Or The Treehouses
The Farmhouse and Treehouses are not directly near a supermarket or grocery so ensure that you pack snacks, beverages, and things to prepare meals. This includes packing cooking spray, saran wrap, butter, milk, eggs, etc.
Here are a few other items you will want to bring when staying in the farmhouse at the Mohicans.
- Supplies to make meals.
- Easy folding Camping Chairs to put around the firepit. There is a picnic table off to the side of the firepit, but there are no chairs nearby.
- Matches/ Firestarters for Fire Pit
- White Noise Machine.
- Travel games bring a few of your family’s favorites! While the farmhouse has some, getting a few family favorites is always good.
- A book for you to enjoy
Things To Do Near The Mohicans Treehouse Resort
Tree Frog Canopy Tours
Zip through the trees with a guided tour from Tree Frog Canopy Tours. No zip line skill is needed for this adventure. Zipline tours are two and half hours, taking guests across seven ziplines and two rappels. Guests must weigh between 75lb-250lbs and be at least ten years old to participate in ziplining.
Reservations are recommended as slots tend to fill up quickly during peak season.
Mohican State Forest
A highlight of any visit to the Mohicans Treehouse Resort is a visit to the Mohican State Forest. Hike along the gorge, climb the fire tower, then relax by a calming creek near the covered bridge.
A few of our favorite hikes include Clear Fork Gorge, Lyon’s Falls, and the Mohican State Scenic River. Note: Not all of these hikes are little kid-friendly. For little ones, I recommend the Gorge Overlook and The Covered Bridge.
The Mohican State Park is maintained by the Ohio DNR, which provides a map highlighting bridle trails, mountain biking trails, and hiking trails.
Float down the river in a tube, drive go-carts or play a round of mini-golf at Mohican Adventures. Mohican Adventures is your one-stop shop for family fun in the Mohicans. Test your skills at their aerial course before hopping on a 7-mile canoe trip!
Tip: Save money by purchasing one of the packages for a whole day of family fun!
Little Buckeye Museum
If the weather is not cooperating, take a drive into downtown Mansfield for the Little Buckeye Children’s Museum. Aimed for children eight and under, this museum offers hours of imaginative play. Shop in a grocery store, play at the water table, or go on stage to create your own broadway show!
The museum is roughly a half-hour from the Mohicans Treehouse Resort but is worth the drive if you get a crummy day. The museum is right across the street from the Richland Carrousel Park, where kids can take rides on the carrousel!
Explore Downtown Mansfield
A great day trip is to explore downtown, Mansfield. Grab a cold beer at the Phoenix Brewing Company, throw axes at the Axe Social Lounge, then enjoy a delicious dinner at Hudson and Essex. If you have time take a stroll through Kingwood Gardens.
Pleasant Hill Lake
Pleasant Hill Lake offers a beach and a marina for swimming, boating, and waterskiing.
Sunny Slope Winery
Enjoy handcrafted wines, live music, and an incredible General Store and Deli at Sunny Slope Winery. My recommendation, make this one of the first things you do, then stock the farmhouse or your Treehouse with wine and goodies from the General Store!
