Where Is Salt Fork Lodge & Why It’s Perfect for the Holiday

Located in Guernsey County, Ohio, just outside the charming town of Cambridge, Salt Fork Lodge & Conference Center sits inside a picturesque nature preserve filled with wintery beauty. Frozen waterfalls, peaceful wooded trails, and the shimmering Salt Fork Lake set the perfect scene for a quiet and cozy holiday retreat.

Holidays at Salt Fork Lake

It’s far enough away from the hustle of everyday life to feel like a true getaway — but close enough to major cities like Columbus, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Cincinnati for an easy weekend drive.

During the holidays, the lodge leans into the season with festive décor, themed events, special menu items, and family-friendly programming, making it a destination instead of just a place to stay.

Address: 11073 Natural Resources 3 Road, Kimbolton, OH 43749

After visiting in all seasons, it is hard to pin a favorite since they each offer a special charm. Be sure to read our guide of the top things to do at Salt Fork Lake during the summer because you will likely want to plan a return trip.

Cozy Lodge Vibes That Feel Like a Hallmark Movie

The moment you walk into the lodge lobby, you’re greeted by warm aromas of the season — notes of pine, a crackling fireplace, and fresh-baked treats floating through the air. Soft holiday music plays while twinkling lights wrap around garlanded mantles, towering Christmas trees glow in every corner, and cozy seating areas invite you to relax by the fireplace.

The entire lodge is full of holiday cheer

It truly feels like stepping into a holiday movie scene.

The lodge’s common areas beckon guests to gather, with oversized plush couches and crackling fireplaces. You will catch many families, including my own, cozying up with games, hot chocolate, and snacks.

A word of warning: many families will stake out common areas of the lodge for gift exchanges, luncheons, and parties. It can make it difficult for others to find their own little cozy nook to enjoy at times.

Recently Renovated Rooms (Plus the New “Cozy Collection” Experience)

One of the biggest upgrades at Salt Fork Lodge is their recently renovated guest rooms — and they’re absolutely stunning.

Each room has been modernized while still embracing the rustic, nature-inspired charm for which Salt Fork is known. We had a large double-queen room with bunk beds, which was perfect for kids! Each room comes with a mini-fridge, microwave, and coffee maker.

From pet-friendly cabins to two-bedroom lodge rooms, find the perfect accomodations for your Salt Fork lodge escape.

Note: As of December 2025, the lodge is still undergoing some renovations.

Ask for a room with a lakeview

But what really sets these rooms apart during the holidays is the optional Cozy Collection add-on.

What is the Cozy Collection?

The Cozy Collection is a special holiday upgrade that transforms your room into a festive haven. Guests who opt in will be surprised with:

  • A twinkling Christmas tree in the room
  • Freshly baked cookies
  • Candy-filled stockings

This add-on is perfect for families with kids, couples celebrating the season, or anyone who wants to step into a winter wonderland the moment they open their hotel room door. It’s one of those small details that make a big, lasting memory.

Visit The Kennedy Stone House

Once home to the Kennedy family, this historic stone house is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Back in 1837, Benjamin Kennedy’s ancestors purchased an 80-acre tract of land in Guernsey County and built a large two-story house from native sandstone quarried nearby. Don Kennedy, the builder’s great-grandson, occupied it until 1966.

Enjoy The Indoor Pool and Hot Tub

It doesn’t have to be a rainy day for your family to enjoy the large indoor pool at the lodge! The heated indoor pool has plenty of seating, locker rooms, and a hot tub!
