Holiday Cottages 

Every time we visit Lake Rudolph, we choose to stay in one of their cozy Holiday Cottages. These charming 2-bedroom, 1-bath rentals offer comfortable space for a family of four and room for up to six guests thanks to a convenient sleeper sofa. Each cottage includes a full kitchen, a welcoming sitting area, and a covered porch- perfect for relaxing after a full day at the park.

Here are a few tips to keep in mind:

• Although they have a fully equipped kitchen, it is not well-stocked with cooking supplies. Think one pan, one sheet, and so on. I recommend either grilling or bringing a prepared dish, such as a casserole, lasagna, or something that doesn’t require much cooking.
• There aren’t any fast food options nearby. The closest thing is a Casey’s gas station or a pizza place.
• Each cottage has a full fridge. We would bring cold cuts, milk for cereal, yogurt, etc.
• The grill is charcoal, and you will need to provide the supplies.
• Every cabin has a fire ring and picnic table outside.
• You will need to bring your bedding, towels, and washcloths. The cabin does provide a fitted sheet and pillow with pillowcase. We recommend bringing a dish towel, pot holders, or paper towels as well.
• For the bathroom, don’t forget to bring a hand towel, towels for showering, and a shower mat or extra towel to put in front of the shower.
• The cottages do have air conditioning!
• The nearby grocery store is Holiday Foods and Grocery, where you pick up anything you left behind. A Dollar General is also located within walking distance of the campground.

Booking with a Group

When booking for multiple cabins or RV sites, you will want to call ahead to arrange group lodging.  A person will be deemed your Wagon Master, and all reservations for each vacation rental and add-ons (like golf carts) are grouped under their name for a period of time, usually 1-2 weeks. 

Then, during that time period, each family group designates a person from their party who will call, update the vacation rental details to reflect their name and information, and pay any necessary deposits.

However, this does not ensure that your cabins are right next to each other. Only nearby. For example, as the wagon master for my group, I was two cabins away from the rest of my group. 

To ensure your cabins are right next to each other, book early and pay a $40 lock fee for the cabin of your choice. This is why booking early is important: Cabins book out as early as a year in advance! 

Pro Tip: Book your golf carts in advance as they are extremely popular and book up in advance. 

Built-In Entertainment (So You Don’t Have to Plan Everything)

This is where Lake Rudolph really shines for group trips.

Instead of planning a full itinerary, the resort is packed with activities for all ages:

• A seasonal water park with slides, splash zones, and cabanas – there is a small fee for this.
• A large swimming pool and kiddie pool
• Mini golf, activity center, playgrounds, and sports courts

• Nightly Golf cart parades in the summer

Tips for Booking a Group Stay

After planning group trips myself, here are a few things that make a huge difference:

1. Book Early (Especially for Summer & Fall)

Lake Rudolph is incredibly popular—especially during summer and Halloween weekends. If you’re traveling with a group, you’ll want to reserve early to secure nearby accommodations.

2. Request Sites or Cabins Close Together

When booking, ask about grouping your cabins or sites. Staying within walking distance of each other makes the trip so much more enjoyable.

3. Consider Renting Golf Carts

The resort is large (over 160 acres), and golf carts are one of the best ways to get around—especially with kids. Not to mention, most kids LOVE golf cart rides. Especially when they can be in the nightly parade! 

Golf Cart Parade Tips: 

-Only use painter’s tape to decorate the golf cart.

-Have to have a valid driver’s license to operate the golf cart. 

-Many carts bring candy or other small trinkets to throw during the parade

-The route is typically a big loop, but it will be posted daily by the activities center. 

4. Plan a Few Group Meals

While there are food options on-site, having a shared dinner or cookout is one of the best parts of a group trip. Most accommodations include grills and outdoor seating.

5. Build in Downtime

With so much to do, it’s tempting to stay busy—but some of the best moments happen when everyone is just hanging out by the cabin or around a campfire.

Create a Holiday Themed Adventure

Our annual summer pilgrimage to Holiday World has grown from a mere four people to over a whopping thirty. Over the years, we have incorporated a new fun tradition that both kids and adults love: decorating the cabins for a particular holiday. Holidays are chosen in advance to prevent duplication, ensuring that each family receives a unique holiday.

We then have a parade of cabins to see everyone’s unique decorating, which has included lights, inflatables, banners, and more! Taking it one step forward, on our first night, we have a holiday potluck, where each cabin brings a dish that best represents their holiday.

A few of the fun ideas that have been suggested include champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries to represent Valentine’s Day, decorating your own Christmas Cookies, bags of Halloween Candy, a Thanksgiving Turkey, and a 4th of July Grill-out.
