If you’re craving a quick, easy escape that feels equal parts charming, walkable, and just a little bit indulgent, let me introduce you to Greenville, South Carolina. Tucked into the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, this vibrant Southern city has quietly become one of the best weekend getaways in the Southeast—and after spending 48 hours here, I totally get the hype.
Whether you’re planning a girlfriend’s getaway, a couples trip, or just need a reset without the kids, Greenville delivers.
Greenville is located in the northwestern corner of South Carolina, right near the North Carolina border. It sits at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains, which means you get the perfect blend of city energy and easy access to nature.
One of the best parts? It’s incredibly easy to get to. If you’re driving from the Midwest or Southeast, it’s a manageable road trip. And if flying is more your style, there’s exciting news—CVG (Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport) will be launching a nonstop route to Greenville starting in July 2026 on Breeze Airways, making this an even easier weekend escape for Cincinnati travelers.
For this trip, we stayed in a cozy Airbnb about 15 minutes outside of downtown. It was the perfect setup for a more relaxed pace—quiet mornings, space to spread out, and an easy drive into the city when we were ready to explore. We splurged and got an Airbnb with a pool, which I have linked here.
If you prefer to stay right in the heart of the action, here are two standout hotel options:
Start your morning at Coffee Underground, a cozy local favorite that’s perfect for easing into the day. From there, take your time strolling through the boutiques along Main Street—this area is incredibly charming, walkable, and full of unique shops.
Next, head over to Falls Park on the Reedy, where you’ll find one of Greenville’s most iconic sights: a stunning waterfall right in the middle of downtown. Be sure to walk across Liberty Bridge for some of the best views in the city.
Continue exploring the West End before grabbing lunch at Gather GVL, a lively outdoor food hall with something for everyone.
After lunch, head back to your Airbnb or hotel to relax and reset before the evening.
For dinner, make a reservation at Juniper—the ambiance alone is worth it, and the food does not disappoint.
Juniper Tip: Make your reservation a few weeks in advance, especially if you are visiting over the weekend and want that stunning sunset view!
Then, keep the night going at Group Therapy Pub & Playground, a playful, high-energy spot that’s perfect for letting loose and ending the night on a fun note.
Start your second day slow with a relaxed brunch at your Airbnb (one of the underrated perks of staying just outside the city).
Then, trade the city streets for fresh air with a trip to Lake Placid. Spend the morning hiking nearby trails or renting paddle boats for a peaceful, scenic reset—it’s the perfect balance to your more bustling first day.
Tip: Paddle boat and kayak rentals are on a first-come, first-served basis and rented in half-hour increments.
After you have worked up an appetite, head into Travelers Rest to grab lunch at Swamp Rabbit Brewery. Rent bicycles for a scenic spin along the Swamp Rabbit Trail.
Fresh up back at home, before venturing out to a true Greenville hidden gem. Make reservations at Hans & Franz Biergarten for a laid-back meal and a fun, casual atmosphere. It’s the kind of place that feels like the perfect send-off to a weekend well spent.
Greenville somehow manages to feel both lively and relaxing at the same time. You can spend your morning sipping coffee and shopping, your afternoon surrounded by waterfalls and green space, and your evening dressed up for dinner and drinks—all without ever feeling rushed.
And the best part? You can do it all in just 48 hours.
If you’ve been looking for a weekend trip that’s easy to plan, easy to get to (especially with that new nonstop flight coming soon), and just the right mix of fun and laid-back… Greenville should absolutely be on your list.
