The Legendary Lights of Clifton Mill isn’t just a light display — it’s a full Christmas experience. What originally began with 100,000 lights in the late 1980s has grown into one of the Midwest’s largest and most enchanting holiday shows and earned a place on Ohio’s Holiday Light Trail.
Here’s what makes it so special:
Every corner of the grounds glows — from the mill itself to the riverbanks, trees, cliffside, and historic covered bridge. The result is a glowing winter wonderland unlike anything else in Ohio.
This is one of the most photographed spots at the mill — thousands of lights cascade down the side of the gorge like shimmering water. My daughter claimed this was her favorite part of the display!
Every hour on the hour, the covered bridge comes alive with dancing lights perfectly timed to holiday music. It’s a guest favorite and worth the wait to see.
Tip: They do an announcement throughout the property, alerting guests that the show will begin soon.
Kids love spotting tiny homes, railroads, shops, and holiday scenes in this incredibly detailed display. Trains run through the village, tiny lights flicker in miniature homes, and there’s something new to discover at every turn.
Inside, you’ll find one of the largest private Santa collections in the country — from vintage figurines to historic ornaments. It was a walk down memory lane as we saw the nostalgic Santas my grandparents had, and even some that have stayed in the family over the years.
Clifton is a tiny village, but that’s precisely why the lights stand out. The backdrop of a real working historic mill adds a storybook feel to the entire experience.
Kids of all ages will want to visit Santa in his workshop! While Santa doesn’t receive any visitors inside his workshop, he will wave through the windows and interact with guests. After December 24th, Santa departs for the North Pole.

Monday–Thursday is ideal. Weekend lines can be long, especially as Christmas approaches. Saturday evenings are the most crowded.
If you’re there right when the gates open at 5 PM, you can explore the grounds before the crowds arrive — and be ready for the lights to switch on at 6 PM.
It happens once every hour on the hour — easy to miss if you’re inside the Santa museum or by the miniature village.
This experience is mostly outdoors and right by the water, which means the temperature can feel a few degrees colder. Don’t forget to pack some Hand Warmers!
The paths are paved but can be crowded. A small stroller works better than a bulky one.
Credit cards are accepted, but cash lines move faster.
