We enlisted the help of hometown lawyers, Kruger and Hodges, to assist in putting together a fun guide to exploring Urbana, Ohio.

A Legacy Rooted in The Frontier

Urbana’s history runs deep, rooted in the early days of American expansion and shaped by pioneers who helped define the Midwest. Founded in 1805, the town quickly became a crossroads for settlers moving west, thanks to its fertile land and strategic location. Urbana is perhaps best known as the final home of John Chapman—better known as Johnny Appleseed—who spent his later years here and is buried just outside town. His legacy of generosity, sustainability, and frontier spirit still lingers, giving Urbana a strong connection to one of America’s most beloved folk figures.

A stop into the Johnny Appleseed Museum should be on your itinerary

Over the years, the town grew through agriculture, innovation, and aviation, evolving while still holding tight to its historic roots—something you can feel today as you walk past preserved buildings, museums, and quiet neighborhoods that tell Urbana’s story one chapter at a time.

Visit the Johnny Appleseed Educational Center and Museum

One of the most unique things to do in Urbana, Ohio, is to visit the Johnny Appleseed Museum, dedicated to the life and legacy of John Chapman. Urbana was Johnny Appleseed’s final home, and the museum tells the story behind the folklore through artifacts, exhibits, and personal history.
