The Best Ages For The Hocking Hill’s Children’s Museum

Stepping into the charming museum, you will notice that it isn’t a huge space. However, they have used every inch of it, making it a play area where you can spend hours with younger children. At the time of our visit, our six-year-old daughter spent over two hours exploring the museum.

I would recommend this museum for children ten and under. There is a designated area for ONLY babies. It is a secured area that allows them to explore the area safely with age-appropriate toys.

The museum is mainly an imaginative play area, with the center being the Logan Town Center, complete with a Tiny House, Grocery Store, Hospital, Car Care Center, and Ice Cream Shop. Children pay attention to the fine details, such as dressing up as the mailman to deliver the post to all the shops or working as a gardener tending to the flower boxes around town.

Older kids may lose interest quickly in the imaginative play areas but will find creating your own circuit boards and crafts entertaining. I found a handful of older children creating their own band in the musical area, utilizing the washboard, triangle, and bongos to create their own original sound.

Fun Fact: We have stayed at the Hocking Hills Tiny Houses in the past. My daughter loved staying overnight in the tiny house, so she loved this fun addition to the museum.

Helpful Tips For Visiting The Hocking Hills Children’s Museum

Visit During The Week

With the museum being on the smaller side, it can fill up quickly. Therefore, plan your visit during off hours to experience fewer crowds. If possible, plan a visit during the week or try to arrive at the museum’s opening hour. I even found that visiting an hour or two before closing can be another prime time for low crowds.

Bring Socks

There is a digging pit that will require children to wear socks. If you forget socks, you can get them at the front desk.

Don’t forget to bring your socks!

Tip: There is a water table, so bringing a change of clothing might be a good idea if your child is prone to splashing!

Pack a Few Snacks

Parents know that snacks are a mandatory staple when going anywhere with children. The good thing is that there is a table at the museum by the bathrooms where kids can sit and enjoy a snack before venturing back out into the museum if hunger strikes.

I find snack time the ideal opportunity to encourage a bathroom break as well!

Don’t miss out on Story Time

Every Tuesday and Friday at 11:30 am, the museum offers a fun storytime. Always check the calendar before venturing to story time, as things can change.
