Hitting the open road with a toddler in tow can be a very rewarding experience with plenty of wonderful memories. However, toddler travel has its sanity losing moments in which simply dropping a toy from a car seat can invoke a tantrum that makes you think you are traveling with a wild baboon. Often times these tantrums are provoked by hunger, leading us on the hunt for the nearest “healthy” fast food options while trying to tide our daughter over with handfuls of crackers or a granola bar. Freeli has eliminated the worry about finding a wholesome meal or snack during our travels. This has quickly become our go-to travel food, mainly because it is just that, real food and not purees. Puree pouches were great when my daughter wasn’t as active, but since she has the energy of a Tasmanian Devil we needed something that would hold her a little longer. There are four great flavors of pouches to choose from. Chicken, Noodle & Veggies (My daughter’s personal favorite), Mac ’n’ Cheese, Pasta & Meat Sauce, and the Fiesta Bowl. Each pouch has between 10-14 grams of protein and is 2x more food then we would get in Lunchable Basics and Cracker Stackers. They won me over with no artificial flavorings, no added sugar, and antibiotic-free meat. Pour out the contents of the pouch to discover that indeed it is not a puree but rather a meal! The food is chopped in small pieces for easy consumption. Many kids love eating out of pouches but please keep in mind, you know your child better than anyone else. If you feel that they may choke by eating out the pouch pour the contents into a bowl or plate. We have done it both ways, just pack a little bowl and spoon along with your Freeli LunchPouch.
Packing Freeli pouches For The Road
There is very little prep and zero mess that goes into packing these pouches for the road. Simply heat them in the microwave for 45 seconds, pop it in a thermos and you are ready to go. We pack the remaining pouches in a cooler with ice to keep them cold until we are at our destination and can pop them in the fridge. When hunger strikes, simply twist off the top and hand the pouch over.
