Rooms at Great Ohio Lodges

Queen With Lake View Room

Our recent stay was in a 2-queen lodge room with a lake view. The rooms are quite spacious, offering a good amount of space for families. Each room comes equipped with a mini-fridge, microwave, coffee maker, cable TV, and a private balcony overlooking Lake Acton.

While the wood paneling and decor may seem dated, it adds to the lodge’s rustic charm. The room was clean, comfortable, and incredibly relaxing.

For those traveling with young children, a pack-n-play can easily fit multiple places throughout the hotel room.

Hueston Woods Camping

For those not looking for a full service lodge, there are campsites available. Disc golf is similar to traditional golf; however, instead of using golf clubs and balls aiming for a hole, disc golf players use disc golf discs and aim for a disc golf basket, which is a pole extending up from the ground with chains and a basket where the disc lands.

The Distractions Disc Golf course’s first hole can be found within walking distance from the hotel parking lot, along with a practice tee. Guests can obtain discs to use at the front desk free of charge.

While the fort itself is no longer the history that took place on the grounds is quite significant. Fort St. Clair was established in 1792 to protect the area’s early pioneers from Indian attacks and provide a place in between Fort Jefferson and Fort Hamilton for troops to rest and gather supplies.

Little Turtle attacked Fort St. Clair early one morning in a battle that left six soldiers dead. The six soldiers’ graves are located near where the old fort stood in the shadow of the Whispering Oak Tree.

Fort St. Clair’s site has now been turned into a park with plaques detailing the history that happened here. Picnic shelters, walking trails, and a playground are a few of the amenities available. During the wintertime, the park transforms into Santa Land, a magical drive in the lights display.
