Sometimes you just need a weekend away with your girls—no schedules, no responsibilities, just good conversation, cozy vibes, and a little adventure. If you’re looking for the perfect mix of relaxation and scenery, a girlfriend getaway to Hocking Hills is exactly what you need.

Tucked away in southeastern Ohio, Hocking Hills is known for its stunning waterfalls, peaceful hiking trails, and dreamy cabin stays. It’s the kind of place where mornings start slow with coffee on the porch, afternoons are spent exploring waterfalls, and evenings end in the hot tub with a glass of wine.

Whether you’re planning a quick reset with friends or a full girls’ weekend, here’s everything you need to plan the perfect trip.

Why Hocking Hills is Perfect for a Girlfriend Getaway

One of the best things about Hocking Hills is how easy it is to get to—especially if you’re coming from Cincinnati or Columbus. Within just a couple of hours, you can completely trade city noise for quiet forests and fresh air.

But what really makes it ideal for a girls’ trip is the balance:

  • Relaxing cabin vibes
  • Easy, scenic hikes
  • Cute wineries and coffee shops

It’s equal parts adventure and unwind—which is exactly what most of us are craving.

Where to Stay on a Girls’ Weekend in Hocking Hills

We choose to stay at Cozy Bear Cabin because it strikes that rare balance between true Hocking Hills seclusion and the comforts that actually let you relax instead of “roughing it.”

Tucked into the woods, it feels private and peaceful from the moment you arrive—like the outside world just drops away—but inside, it’s warm, thoughtfully designed, and fully equipped so you can settle in immediately.

It also sleeps up to 14 guests, making it a great fit for families or a small group getaway without ever feeling cramped. The hot tub under the stars, the cozy living space for slow mornings with coffee, and the easy access to nearby trails make it feel like everything about the stay is meant to help you actually unplug.

Did I mention it is equipped with fun games like shuffleboard and foosball? Good times are bound to happen!

The Perfect 2-Day Hocking Hills Girls Weekend Itinerary

If you’re short on time, a 2-day itinerary is perfect for soaking it all in without feeling rushed.

Day 1: Arrival, Exploring & Cozy Night In

Start your trip with a late-morning or early-afternoon arrival. With cabin check-in typically at 4 pm, I recommend hitting one of the easier trails before retiring to the cabin for the evening.

Go for an early morning hike - Old Man's Cave

Head to my favorite spot in Hocking Hills, Old Man’s Cave. The trails here are scenic but manageable, making them perfect for a casual, chat-filled hike. Opt for a bit more adventure by taking the trail to Lower Falls. Keep in mind that this portion of the trail has a fair number of stairs.

If you have time, add a stop at Ash Cave for a stunning waterfall moment (and one of the best photo ops in the area).

Enjoy time by the campfire

Venture back to your cabin before sunset, throw on comfy clothes, and lean into a cozy night:

  • Taco Night with Margs – We always do this on the first night, because then we use the leftovers to make snackin’ nachos the following day.
  • Campfire with s’mores
  • Hot tub + late-night chats

Honestly, this is the heart of the whole trip. Don’t forget to pack your slippers and a good book.

Day 2: Slow Morning, Coffee & Wineries

Start your morning slow—no alarms, no rush. Sip coffee on the porch, read a book, and ease into the day.

For those in need of coffee outside of the cabin offerings, plan a stop at the Hocking Hills Inn and Coffee Emporium. They have incredible lattes and pastries.

Ash Cave

Start your morning with another scenic Hocking Hills hike. Here are few that we recommend:

Easier Hikes With Groups:

  • Ash Cave – The trail is paved until you get into the cave. Guests with mobility issues can return to the parking lot via the paved trail or continue up the stairs for the rest of the loop
  • Conkle’s Hollow Nature Preserve – This lower trail is paved the upper trail (Rim trail) is a bit challenging
  • Cedar Falls– a mile loop with a beautiful waterfall. The end of this hike can get a bit squirrelly with navigating some large boulders, but for the most part it is an easy trail.

More Challenging Hikes:

  • The Rock House – We wrote a whole guide to navigating the Rock House.
  • Cantwell Cliffs – One of the more challenging of the seven major trails in Hocking Hills. Cantwell Cliffs features steep, rugged terrain, narrow passages, and wooden steps.

I recommend packing a picnic lunch to enjoy in the park. However, if you are looking for a great spot for lunch or dinner, check these local spots out:

  • 58 West
  • Hungry Buffalo
  • La Cascada
  • Pizza Crossing
  • Millstone Southern Smoked BBQ

Winery Stops in the Hocking Hills Area

In the afternoon, it’s time to treat yourselves with a winery stop. Ohio wine is known for its crisp, cool-climate character, with standout varieties like Riesling and sweet, concentrated ice wines, shaped by Lake Erie’s influence. Expect bright acidity, fruit-forward flavors, and an approachable style that makes it perfect for casual sipping or weekend winery hopping.

Hocking Hills Winery

A favorite in the area is Hocking Hills Winery, where you can enjoy a relaxed atmosphere, live music (on select days), and a well-earned glass of wine.

For a more European experience with rolling hills, head to Le Petit Chevalier Vineyards and Farm Winery. Savor a glass of their award-winning dry red wine while overlooking the grazing sheep throughout the scenic vineyard.

Two other wineries that are just outside of the Hocking Hills area include: Rockside Winery and Vineyards in Lancaster and Valley View Hills Winery in Sugar Grove.

Tip: Check the winery’s hours of operation before planning your visit.

Return to the cabin with a few bottles of wine for an evening of relaxation. Whether your group enjoys games, crafts, or gathering around a campfire, spend the evening making memories and bonding.

Day 3: One Last Adventure Then Head Home

A reality of traveling with moms is that mom guilt sets in on departure day (if not sooner), and we feel the need to rush home to be with our children.

By planning one final adventure, big or small, you get to hold on to that moment a little longer—choosing presence over pressure and ending the trip with a memory that feels like a soft landing instead of a hard stop.
